Pampanga and Central Luzon are emerging key economic hubs in the Philippines following the completion of major infrastructure projects and private sector investments.

This said Rene Romero, chairman of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc.

Romero said the completion of high-ticket projects like the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR), the Clark International Airport expansion, and the development of New Clark City will impact the economy of the province.

He added that such initiatives, along with investments from developers like Megaworld, SM Group, Filinvest, Robinsons, and Ayala, are expected to solidify Pampanga’s role as a major economic and metropolitan center.

Aside from infrastructure projects, Romero said that Pampanga’s economy has shown resilience in recent years.

He cited Central Luzon’s inflation rate at 3.3% in December 2024, which contributed to an annual average of 3.9%, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Romero said that these indicators reflect effective economic measures and stability.

He added that Clark’s 1.2 million tourist arrivals in 2024 and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority’s 950,000 visitors also showed the region’s growing appeal as a tourism and business destination.

The businessman said that enhanced connectivity and improved facilities have been key factors in this growth.

Developments are expected to expand labor markets and create new business opportunities, stimulating Pampanga’s economy, he added.

Romero also underscored the importance of strategic urban planning to ensure sustainable growth.

He called for strict enforcement of zoning regulations, investments in public transportation, and the integration of green spaces to prevent issues like the congestion in Metro Manila.

Romero added that effective governance and collaboration between the public and private sectors must also be observed.

He stressed the need for media and community involvement in ensuring government accountability and addressing issues like climate change and disaster preparedness.

“Pampanga’s growth is a result of collaborative efforts between the government, private sector, and communities. Sustaining this progress requires vigilance, strategic planning, and a commitment to inclusivity and sustainability,” Romero said.
