The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation announced the temporary closure of a portion of the Sto. Tomas lane in Pampanga to make way for the construction of a new interchange.

NLEX said the innermost lanes of both northbound and southbound sections of the expressway will be closed to facilitate the ongoing construction of the Sto. Tomas Interchange.

The closures will affect 500-meter sections of the leftmost lanes, particularly after the Pau River Bridge for the northbound, and after the San Matias Bridge for the southbound.

The lane closures will occur from 10 PM to 4 AM on April 21 to 22, April 22 to 23, April 23 to 24, and April 24 to 25.

Engr. Roseller A. Tolentino, director of Department of Public Works and Highways Region III, said the project is part of the Greater Pampanga Circumferential Road Masterplan.

It will connect to the proposed Lubao-Guagua-Minalin-Sto. Tomas (LGMST) Bypass Road.

Tolentino added that the interchange will improve access to key infrastructure in Sto. Tomas, including a planned hospital and university.

The DPWH official added that the project is expected to spur development in the locality.
