In line with the commemoration of Mount Pinatubo eruption on June 15, 1991, the Provincial Government of Pampanga led the 34th anniversary memorial program at San Guillermo Parish Church in Bacolor town on Sunday.

In his speech during the event, former Municipal Councilor Nilo “Pogi” Caballa recalled the town’s devastation from lahar and its long journey toward recovery.

A highlight of the program was the unveiling of the “Rising from the Ashes” marker, a monument that celebrates Bacolor’s rebirth.

Made with volcanic ash from Mount Pinatubo, the marker honors the nearly 20,000 Kapampangans who were displaced by the disaster, and stands as a remembrance to Bacolor’s resiliency.

The ceremonies were spearheaded by the provincial government's Arts, Culture, and Tourism Office (ACTOP), headed by Provincial Tourism Officer Mike Castañeda, in collaboration with the Foundation for Lingap Kapampangan, Inc. (FLKI), and the Bacolor local government under Mayor Diman Datu.

Engr. Fer Caylao, Sonia P. Soto, Bong San Pedro and the San Guillermo Parish Church led by Fr. Theodore Valencia supported the event. |Tristan Jingco
