Some 27 teams from different barangays in Mabalacat City are competing in the Tatay Bong-Boking Basketball Cup.

The tournament was launched on Easter Sunday, April 20, at the San Rafael Covered Court in Barangay Mabiga.

The tournament is spearheaded by businessman Rodolfo “Bong” Pineda and former Mabalacat City Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales.

The sports event was organized by the 3BC organization.

Pineda said the event is part of his advocacy for grassroot sports development.

He also announced plans to build basketball courts across the city to encourage youth participation in sports.

Morales said the tournament aims to promote peace and order and provide recreational opportunities for the youth to stay away from vices.

The opening ceremony was attended by members of the Team Geld-Jun team, led by Vice Mayor Geld Aquino.

Winners of the tournament will receive cash prizes with the grand champion set to take home ?300,000.

The first runner-up will receive P200,000, while the second and third runners-ups P100,000 and P50,000, respectively.
