Supporters of reelected Mayor Jaime “Jing” Capil held a unity walk on Monday as a show of support for his mandate.
Attended by more than 2,000 residents, the rally came amidst the disqualification case against Capil filed before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) by losing mayoral candidate, Mike Tapang.
The walk brought together community members, barangay leaders, and local officials in a peaceful demonstration of confidence in Capil's leadership.
The event started at the newly constructed municipal hall and concluded at the old municipal building.
Incoming Vice Mayor Jen Capil, Mayor Capil's daughter, led the event.
"Ang prayer rally ay initiative ng ating mga supporters at ng mga Poraqueños na sila po ay nananawagan na sana po mangibabaw ang demokrasya sa ating bayan. Na sana pu ing buri dang leader,
iya ing milukluk,” Capil said.
The unity walk culminated in a collective prayer asking for swift and fair resolution to the case, and for the people’s mandate to be upheld.
Attendees wore white shirts symbolizing peace, while some carried placards with messages “We Stand With Mayor Capil” and “Let the People’s Voice Prevail.”
Vice Mayor Capil said she’s hopeful that the Comelec will hear their legal arguments and issue a fair decision.
“Almost 100 la pu reng candidates a ating similar situation keng keka tamung mayor, e la pu me-disqualify, sana pu makanyan mu rin ing desisyun da keng keka tamu,” she said.
Capil thanked the people who supported them during the elections.
