Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda met with the salandra (informal hauler) workers on June 19 at the Jose Songco Lapid Cultural, Sports, and Civic Center to assist in creating their association.

The Capitol said the meeting will allow provincial leaders to understand the hauling workers' operations and lay the groundwork for legalizing their livelihood.

Around 91 sand and gravel haulers attended the meeting, the provincial government said.

Pineda assured the workers of the provincial government’s support.

The governor said "efforts will be made to reduce costs and increase their income."

Pineda designated a government-owned area where hauling will be allowed.

He even warned that operations outside the site will be prohibited.

Six new leaders were selected, making the number of officers to 10.

Present at the meeting were Antonio Ayson (Porac Quarry Operators Association president), Ann Pascual (KALAM), Lawyer Mikaela Layug (Provincial Legal Office), Engr. Manuel Mendoza Jr. (Provincial Assessor), and Barangay Mancatian Chairman Edilberto Layug.

Pineda also warned the workers against bribery and illegal activities. He urged the workers to report any wrongdoing.

The governor also reminded them that transporting garbage is banned and violations will lead to suspension of their operations.

The attendees received cash assistance and food packs after the meeting.
