Angeles City Mayor Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin, Jr. on Tuesday led the inauguration of the first locally-funded wastewater treatment faclity at the Pampang Public Market.

The mayor described the project as a landmark step toward environmental protection and sustainable urban development.

This is the second wastewater treatment plant established in the city. The first one, located at the city slaughterhouse, was built through a Joint Venture Agreement.

Lazatin said the Pampang facility was financed entirely by the city government.

“This facility reflects our firm commitment to environmental sustainability while ensuring cost-effective solutions for the city,” Lazatin said during the event.

Engineered to convert wastewater into clean and reusable water, the mayor said the facility is expected to significantly reduce water pollution from the public market.

Treated water may be used in agricultural irrigation, industrial applications, and general cleaning.

Lazatin said this is a sustainable solution that also lowers government spending on water consumption.

“This is more than just a facility — it’s an investment in public health and responsible water management,” Lazatin added.

The local government said it is enforcing proper solid waste disposal at the market and in the city's 33 barangays to prevent waste from reaching waterways.
