Malampusong gipaubos sa appendectomy sa Philippine General Hospital (PGH) si kanhi representante sa Negros Oriental nga si Arnolfo Teves Jr., matod sa iyang abogado niadtong Miyerkules, Hunyo 18, 2025.
Sa usa ka pamahayag, si Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, legal counsel ni Teves, nagkanayon nga ang kanhi magbabalaod nagpaalim na sa iyang operasyon human sa usa ka “life-threatening condition.”
Matod ni Topacio nga ang medical emergency ni Teves nagpadayag sab sa kakulang sa kaandam sa Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) sa pagtubag sa ingon nga mga sitwasyon.
“If it took several hours for a high-profile prisoner such as Representative Teves to be given medical attention, we shudder at how the BJMP will treat ordinary detainees. It also shows how a detained person—who, after all, is presumed innocent—is deprived of his right to seek his own choice of treatment and medical professionals to attend to him, by illogical and archaic rules biased against private hospitals,” dugang ni Topacio.
Gisaway sab niya ang trial courts sa wala pagsunod sa direktiba sa Korte Suprema sa pag-isyu og commitment orders.
Sigon niya nga ang insidente nagpakita sa “potentially fatal” nga resulta sa pagsupak sa trial court.
“The operation performed on Mr. Teves proves that, far from being ‘drama’, the complaint of a medical condition was legitimate. It was only the persistent and untiring efforts of Mr. Teves’ family and close friends, assisted by us, their lawyers, that saved Mr. Teves’ life,” sumala ni Topacio.
Si Teves gidala sa ospital gikan sa iyang detensyon sa Camp Bagong Diwa niadtong Martes sa buntag, Hunyo 17, tungod sa grabeng sakit sa tiyan nga iyang nasinati sukad pa sa tungang gabii.
