COLONEL Dionisio Apas Jr., director of the Leyte Police Provincial Office (LPPO), launched a swift investigation following the shooting of a barangay captain and his driver in Albuera town on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

“We condemn this act of violence in the strongest terms. LPPO will pursue every lead to ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice,” Apas said.

He also assured the public that “all investigative efforts are being undertaken to establish the motive, identify the suspects, and ensure that justice is served for the victims of this incident.”

The victims, identified only as alias "Toto," 41, barangay captain, and alias "Jojo," 21, his driver, were traveling from Ormoc City to Barangay Tabgas, Albuera, aboard a white Ford Ranger when they were suddenly fired upon by unidentified gunmen positioned along the roadside using firearms of unknown caliber.

Authorities said both victims sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical treatment.

A witness has already come forward and provided an initial statement to authorities to aid in the investigation.

“According to accounts gathered, the suspects were seen fleeing aboard a single black motorcycle immediately after the shooting,” the police provincial office said.

Dragnet operations have also been coordinated with nearby and adjacent police stations for the arrest of the gunmen. (Ronald O. Reyes/SunStar Philippines)
