3 soldiers 'illegally' fire gun, hit 2 civilians in Samar

POLICE are investigating three Army personnel after they "illegally" fired their guns, hitting a barangay tanod and another farmer in Paranas, Samar Sunday evening, May 24.

The suspects were identified as members of the Philippine Army who are currently assigned at 46th Infantry Battalion in Calbiga, Samar.

One of them is a 33-year-old soldier, Jover Mabaga, married, a resident of Motiong, Samar, police said in a report.

The victims were farmer Teodorico Cinco, 65, and tanod Marcelino Nacar, 67, both residents of Barangay San Isidro in Paranas town.

Initial investigation disclosed the three soldiers were having a drinking spree at the house of a certain Rogelio Barondo when they were cautioned by Nacar "for having a loud noise" around 10 p.m. Sunday.

The suspects went out from the house and allegedly fired their firearms to the ground.

However, the bullet ricocheted and accidentally hit the victims, according to the police.

Cinco sustained gunshot wounds on his right armpit, stomach and left leg, while Nacar was hit on his left hand.

They were brought to Samar Provincial Hospital, Catbalogan City for medical treatment, while the suspects immediately fled toward unknown direction. (SunStar Philippines)
