AT LEAST 60 unregistered Motor Cabs for Hire (MCH) and other public utility vehicles (PUVs) were apprehended Wednesday evening, September 25, following the resumption of anti-colorum operations in Tacloban City.

Gerry Abilar, transport section in-charge of Business Permits and Licenses Division (BPLD), said they are launching the operations in response to the City Traffic Ordinance 2000-01 and to the order of Mayor Alfred Romualdez for the safety of the commuters.

Abilar urged the PUV drivers to bring with them a copy of their business permit and other pertinent documents when driving.

The violators were issued citation tickets and advised to secure the necessary permits from the BPLD, he added.

As a matter of policy, MCH operators who failed to register their vehicles during the previous year are no longer allowed to secure a permit for the following year, the official said in a statement.

The anti-colorum operation team is also composed of Traffic Operation Management Enforcement and Control Office and Tacloban City Police personnel.

The operations cover the areas at Robinsons North, Robinsons Marasbaras and the Abucay New Bus Terminal, according to Henry James Roca of the City Information Office.

Since September 13, over 100 colorum PUVs were already apprehended in the city.

At present, Tacloban has 3,495 registered PUVs, added Roca. (SunStar Philippines)
