Cops arrest 6 for alleged illegal cockfighting

SIX persons were arrested in two separate operations against illegal cockfighting or “tupada” in Eastern Visayas towns.

In Silvino Lubos, Northern Samar, police nabbed two violators who were caught in the act of engaging in an illegal cockfighting at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 1, in Barangay Camayaan.

Confiscated from the violator’s possession and control were two dead fighting cocks, two pieces gaffs and bet money amounting to P450.

On October 31, police in Kawayan, Biliran arrested four suspects while engaging in illegal cockfighting activity.

Also confiscated from their possession and control were two dead fighting cocks, one wounded fighting cock, two pieces of gaffs and P500 bet money.

The arrested violators were brought to their respective police stations for documentation and for proper filing of charges in connection with Presidential Decree 449, or Illegal Cockfighting Law, as amended by Presidential Decree 1602, which prescribes stiffer penalties for illegal gambling.
