BRIGADIER General Bernard Banac, director of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Eastern Visayas, has assured that police personnel in the region are ready for the local and national elections Monday, May 9, 2022.
"PRO 8 is now in full swing in its checkpoints, deployments, and security detail in polling centers for the conduct of the elections," said Banac.
On Sunday, May 8, Banac, together with other police officials, visited the Regional Election Monitoring Action Center (Remac) at the Camp Ruperto Kangelon in Palo, Leyte "for close monitoring of the 2022 national and local elections."
The police regional command also started implementing the national liquor ban on Sunday, May 8, until the election day on Monday.
"We all want peaceful and safe conduct of the elections, thus, I want everybody's cooperation. Let us be responsible enough," Banac said.
Based on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution 10746, it is unlawful for any person, including owners and managers of hotels, resorts, restaurants, and other establishments of the same nature to sell, furnish, offer, buy, serve or take intoxicating liquor anywhere in the country.
"Following the said resolution, PRO 8 has coordinated with business establishments and the like and is strictly implementing the prohibition of selling, furnishing, offering, buying and serving or taking intoxicating liquor on the aforementioned dates," Banac added.
As of Sunday, May 8, the police regional command has three recorded reports on the violation of said liquor ban. (SunStar Philippines)
