AT LEAST 100 slots are up for grabs for this year’s Jobstart Philippines program of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Eastern Visayas.

Dole Regional Director Yahya Centi said they have partnered with the City Government of Tacloban through the Public Employment Service Office (Peso) for the launching of the program.

Centi called interested youth residing in Tacloban, ages 18 to 24 years old, at least high school graduate and currently not enrolled nor employed to register for the program at Tacloban Peso located at the City Hall on July 1 to 5.

After the registration process, screening of applicants will follow to determine who among the applicants are most qualified for the training.

The Jobstart Philippines program aims to enhance the employability of youth by reducing their job-search period and increasing their employability through training, paid internship and full-cycle employment facilitation services, said Norma Rae Costimiano of the Dole's Technical Support Services Division in the region.

The program is designed to increase the capacity of Peso in providing full cycle employment facilitation services, she added.

According to Dole, Jobstart trainees shall receive daily allowance of P200 for the duration of life skills training and technical skills training.

“After completing said training, they shall undertake internship with the partner establishments for a maximum of three months with a stipend of not less than 75 percent of the prevailing minimum wage in the city,” the department said.

Meanwhile, the Dole said that nine establishments have already signified to accept trainees for the program.

Among these establishments are McDonalds, Ocho Seafood & Grill Restaurant, Jollibee, Hotel Rodolfo, Hotel Alondra and Leyte Park Resort Hotel, said Costimiano. (SunStar Philippines)
