BRIGADIER General Bernabe Balba, Eastern Visayas police regional director, has sent 54 policemen to Cebu City to augment its manpower amid the rising cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the city.

“As we battle with this pandemic, I am one with the burden being faced by the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 where frontliners especially a large number of the police force are now busy performing their mandated duties,” said Balba.

“As we heal as one, we responded to the request of the national headquarters to send an augmentation to PRO-7. My only prayer is that our troop will come back here safe and sound,” the police official added.

Leading the 54 policemen from the region is Major Vicente Bullecer Jr.

Prior to their departure on Thursday, June 18, the team underwent an orientation, rapid test, and other health check requisites by the Regional Health Service (RHS)-Eastern Visayas headed by Lieutenant Colonel Techie Lebanan.

They were given face shields, washable and surgical face masks, gloves, alcohol and multivitamins, according to PRO-Eastern Visayas spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Ma. Bella Rentuaya.

As of June 19, Cebu has a total of 4,241 Covid-19 cases, with 64 deaths. (SunStar Philippines)
