Eastern Visayas ROTC athletes bag 1 gold, 25 silver medals in sports fest

RESERVE Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) athletes from the 8th Regional Community Defense Group-Reserve Command, Philippine Army (8RCDG-RCPA) bagged one gold and 25 bronze medals in the first Philippine ROTC Games in Iloilo City.

8RCDG chief Colonel Castor Bahin congratulated the winning players, especially Cadet Orlando Advincula Jr. of Northwest Samar State University-Calbayog City, who won the gold medal in the Arnis event.

He also thanked the parents and officials of the 12 participating colleges and universities in the region for their support to the 44 ROTC delegates.

Lieutenant Colonel Arturo Dumalagan, 8RCDG operations officer and team manager, said the 25 bronze medals were from r4x400 meters- women (4), e-games Mobile Legend (7), arnis (1), volleyball (12), and boxing (1).

The ROTC Games, which ended on Sunday, August 19, 2023, was made possible through the sponsorship of Senator Francis Tolentino, in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education, the Department of National Defense, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Philippine Sports Commission, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines-the Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force, and Philippine Army.

The week-long games highlighted sports development among ROTC athletes in the country and helped promote ROTC's " vital role in nation-building," the army in the region said. (SunStar Philippines)
