MAASIN City Mayor Nacional Mercado is seeking additional vaccine allocations amid the rising cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the city.

As of Wednesday, July 7, 2021, Mercado said only 5.08 percent are fully vaccinated out of the total 47,650 eligible population in Maasin.

“Thereby, with the rising Covid-19 active and death cases in our city, the City Government of Maasin continues to appeal for more allocations from the Department of Health (DOH) and National Inter-Agency Task Force (NIATF) to better serve the demands of our beloved constituents and might as well protect them while we continue to combat this unseen enemy,” Mercado said.

For the Sinovac vaccine rollout in the city, only 4,729 individuals received their first dose while 2,419 received the second dose.

For AstraZeneca, only 481 people were vaccinated while none for the second dose.

Confirmed Covid-19 cases in the city already reached 934, with 857 recoveries, 23 deaths, and 54 active cases, as of Tuesday, July 6.

“The City Government of Maasin strongly urges the public to religiously practice the infection-prevention and control measures,” said Mercado as he urged the resident to limit outside exposure to essential activities. (SunStar Philippines)
