SENATOR Mark Villar has expressed confidence that his Senate Bill No. 1594, which aims to institutionalize the “One Town, One Product” (OTOP) program, will become a law.

“This will be a big help to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially in the countryside, to boost their businesses and generate more employment,” Villar said.

According to the senator, the bill is now awaiting the signature of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“The OTOP bill has already passed the Senate and until then the bicameral conference will be held with congressmen and the bill will be sent to Malacañang to be signed by the president,” said the senator during his visit to Tacloban City recently.

Villar, who introduced the OTOP Bill in the Senate, said that “it will help a lot if his bill becomes a law so that every year the funding is secure for the launching and promotion of each product.”

“Through this, it will open up industries and additional opportunities. It is better to have a focus in one area, in one product, and develop it,” he added.(SunStar Philippines)
