OVER 7,000 permits are targeted to be processed and renewed in Tacloban City as it formally opened the annual registration and renewal of businesses on Monday, January 4, 2021, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Business Permit and Licensing Division (BPLD) announced that health protocols will be strictly observed as their office is open from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

BPLD Head Gemafiel Gaspay also urged business owners to renew their permits on or before the deadline on January 20, 2021, to avoid penalties and surcharges.

“The law says non-renewal of business permits within the renewal period constitutes a 25 percent surcharge of the total amount due, plus an additional two percent every month of delay until settlement,” said the City Information Office (CIO), citing the licensing division.

According to BPLD, the renewal requirements include the 2021 barangay (village) clearance, business clearance, mayor’s permit, business plate, valid identification card, and special power of attorney if a representative of the business owner will process the documents.

A unified form can also be downloaded online.

Meanwhile, the city recorded an actual collection of P1,289,101,561.14 from January to November 2020 alone.

The amount is 84 percent of the 2020 collection target of P1,531,265,446.00.

The decrease in the collection was due to the pandemic, according to CIO, citing initial data from the City Treasurer’s Office.

In 2021, the city is targeting a collection of P1,481,550,001.56. (SunStar Philippines)
