Violators of public in-person gatherings in Tacloban to face hefty fines, imprisonment

VIOLATORS of public in-person assemblies in Tacloban City will face hefty fines and jail time, following the order of Mayor Alfred Romualdez Thursday, June 3, 2021.

In his executive order numbered 2021-06-023, otherwise known as “An Executive Order Regulating Activities and Intensifying the imposition of Minimum Health Standards,” Romualdez prohibited all public in-person assemblies, such as school graduation ceremonies, concerts, sporting events, and other similar activities in the city until further notice.

“The movement of all persons shall be limited to accessing goods and services from permitted establishments or for such activities that may be allowed,” Romualdez said.

In an advisory released by the city government, it added that all other gatherings may be allowed with 50 percent of the venue capacity.

“Provided, that the minimum public health standards and the ventilation standards, as provided for under relevant issuances of Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) are observed,” it said.

Those who will violate the order will face a fine of not less than P20,000 but not more than P50,000 or imprisonment of not less than one month but not more than six months, or both such fine and imprisonment.

Romualdez issued the new order in response to the sudden surge of Covid-19 cases in the city.

As of Thursday, Tacloban recorded 44 new Covid-19 cases. (SunStar Philippines)
