POLICE arrested a 62-year-old public official facing graft charges in Barangay Naga-asan, Babatngon, Leyte, recently.

Brigadier General Jay Cumigad, director of the Philippine National Police (PNP)–Eastern Visayas, lauded the operating team for their “diligence and professionalism” in serving the warrant as part of the government’s intensified anti-corruption drive.

“This arrest is a testament to our commitment to the PNP's program of honest governance and public accountability. We will not hesitate to hold any public official accountable, regardless of their position,” Cumigad said.

“Our people deserve clean and trustworthy public service,” he added.

Operatives of the Babatngon Municipal Police Station identified the accused as “Sarah,” a resident of the town.

She was arrested on April 23, 2025, based on a warrant for violation of Section 3(e) of Republic Act 3019, also known as the “Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act,” issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 44 in Tacloban City.

The court-recommended bail was set at P90,000.00, according to information released by the police regional command.
