HOUSE Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, along with his two sons and other winning candidates of the Leyte First Congressional District, formally took his oath of office as a member of the House of Representatives in a ceremony at the historic Price Mansion in Tacloban City Sunday, June 29, 2025.
“Thank you for your support in this journey for public service for the Leyte First District… In return, we will do our very best to deliver more services, programs, and projects for our district and for the rest of our constituents,” said Romualdez in his speech.
Court of Appeals Associate Justice Bautista Corpin led the inauguration ceremony of Romualdez and his sons, Andrew Julian Romualdez, the first nominee of the Tingog Partylist, and Ferdinand Martin Jr., a newly elected member of the Tacloban City Council.
They were joined by re-elected Tingog Partylist Congressman Jude Acidre and newly elected officials from Tacloban City, Babatngon, Palo, Sta. Fe, Alangalang, San Miguel, Tanauan, and Tolosa.
Meanwhile, Romualdez lauded the new officials for their leadership in their respective areas.
“You were supported by your constituents; it means you have done well… But still, much needs to be done, and we are ready and willing to face this challenge as we face the future,” he said.
“We have proven it after Yolanda. We have bounced back. I believe we can reach farther heights,” the Leyte solon added.
Speaker Romualdez, the first cousin of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., was first elected as Leyte First District Representative in 2007.
He was re-elected in 2010 and 2013.
After serving for nine years, he was replaced by his wife, Yedda Marie Romualdez, before returning to the same position in 2019 and again in the 2025 elections.
He previously ran for a Senate seat in the 2016 national elections but failed to win after placing 15th. (Ronald O. Reyes/SunStaar Philippines)
