VISAYAS State University (VSU) in Baybay City, Leyte, in partnership with Power Mac Center, launched its first Apple Basecamp Training to equip faculty members with the necessary skills and expertise on MacBook and iPad learning tools.
“As we are heavily engaged in multimedia production, it is our dream and aspiration at the VSU Department of Development Communication to build our very own Apple Lab Studio as a first step toward obtaining Apple Distinguished School recognition,” said Dr. Ulderio Alviola, chairperson of Department of Development Communication (DDC).
Following the training, VSU will become the first state-run university in Eastern Visayas to have newly certified Apple Teachers.
Power Mac Center, the country’s Apple Premium Partner and the largest distributor of Apple devices in the Philippines, conducted the Apple Basecamp Training from May 26 to 27, 2025, at the VSU Smart Classroom Building.
“I’m humbled that because of our partnership with Power Mac Center, we now have our first set of certified Apple Teachers in Eastern Visayas,” said Dr. Ma. Rachel Kim Locayon-Aure, head of the Office of the Director for Instruction and Evaluation (ODIE), who initiated the training.
“We plan to work and collaborate more with them in the coming days because we believe in the power of Apple systems for education, creativity, and productivity that will in turn be useful to all of us in the university,” she added.
Meanwhile, Alviola thanked the resource persons Joseph Kelvin Regla, Jean August Galsim, and Krisstofer Quemquem for their “valuable inputs that allowed all of us to see and experience the power and functionality of the Apple ecosystem.”
“The next step for VSU will be the Apple Learning Experience for Educators and Students, in which 50 iMacs and 50 iPads will be lent to the university,” Alviola said.
VSU faculty, staff, and students can also avail themselves of “generous education discounts” at all Power Mac Center branches nationwide when purchasing a MacBook or an iPad. (Ronald Reyes/SunStar Philippines)
