Faith

ONE value that can define a person’s character is faithfulness. The ability to remain loyal to someone or something we regard as important and being able to commit to it with unwavering resolve is a quality that speaks of who we are. Be it with our relationships or our profession, the faithful ones always stands out and are highly esteemed by people around him. The lifestyle that goes with being faithful is so refined and stable that it naturally exacts respect.

Now, we reflect and wonder, what’s the first step to being faithful?

William Temple said, “Little things are little things; but faithfulness in little things is a very great thing.” Yes, indeed. It is a virtue that is deeply-rooted; it manifests even in our most menial activities. It is at this level, when we are unconsciously and naturally exercising it that we are found to be strong.

It is amazing to realize that faithfulness begins and is concluded with the little things. We start to build this virtue in our lives by consciously integrating it in every small and big thing we come across with every day. Over the course of time of guarding our every move, word and actions, faithfulness becomes embedded in our lifestyle; and it is then, through little things, when people conclude that we are a person of great character. That we are who they see we are and not what we proclaim ourselves to be. Through these little things also, that greater things can be accomplished. The process and the price that needs to be paid to build this in our lives, are we ready to pay and go through? As we desire to be elevated into a place of respect and high esteem, let us do so and decide to be at peace with the process that we will be subjected into. What are the things that we need to start and stop doing? What do we need to sacrifice? Let us contemplate on these and discover the strength that is starting to grow from within us.

There is no indication that God explained to Joseph what He was doing through those many years of heartache or how the pieces would eventually fit together. He had no ways of knowing that he would eventually enjoy a triumphal reunion with his family. He was expected, as you and I are, to live his life one day at a time in something less than complete understanding. What pleased God was Joseph’s faithfulness when nothing made sense.

Moreover, let us not do it for the sake of men but to please God. We have to be faithful to Him and to His perfect will and purposes. There is no way to label faithfulness as such without God. He is the object of our faithfulness. God is faithfulness. Let us be full of faith in God and rejoice in knowing that He is more faithful to the faithful.
