THE Army’s 101st Infantry Brigade (101Bde) has initiated the renovation of the Attaqwa Islamic Institute for Holy Qur’an Memorization and Arabic Language Teaching in Tabuk village, Isabela City, Basilan.

The renovation Attaqwa Islamic Institute is part of the 101Bde continuing efforts to promote peace, development, and interfaith understanding.

On Friday, June 20, Brigadier General Alvin Luzon, 101Bde commander, led the groundbreaking signaling the start of the renovation, which is undertaken in close collaboration with the 4th and 6th Special Forces Battalions of the Army.

Luzon said the joint effort aims to improve the institute’s facilities to better serve Muslim youth's educational and spiritual needs in the area.

He said the project reflects the military’s shared advocacy for inclusive development, cultural respect, and meaningful community engagement.

Luzon emphasized the vital role of education in building resilient and peaceful communities.

“This effort reflects our enduring commitment to help build a Basilan where learning and faith form the backbone of progress and harmony,” he said.

Once completed, the renovated institute is envisioned to become a center of excellence in Qur’anic studies and Arabic language instruction, complementing the province's broader peace and development initiatives.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by top military commanders and military personnel, religious scholars, and local community leaders, signifying a shared commitment to building a more inclusive, educated, and peaceful Basilan. (SunStar Zamboanga)
