THE Army's 1st Infantry Division (1ID) has initiated changes in the leadership of the 102nd Infantry Brigade (102Bde), one of its operating units in Zamboanga Peninsula, the military said Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Installed as the new commander of the 102Bde is Colonel Randolph Rojas, replacing Major General Elmer Suderio, who now serves as the Armed Forces of the Philippines' deputy chief of staff for operations.
Major General Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr., 1ID commander, who presided over the Change of Command Ceremony, underscored the importance of strong leadership in achieving operational excellence.
"The transition is a reaffirmation of our shared commitment to service. Colonel Rojas brings with him a wealth of experience and a steadfast dedication that will surely propel the 102nd Infantry Brigade to new heights," Barroquillo said during the ceremony on Monday, May 5, at the 102Bde headquarters.
Rojas expressed his appreciation for the trust given to him and paid tribute to the accomplishments of his predecessor.
"It is a profound honor to assume command of the 102nd Infantry Brigade. I thank Major General Suderio for his outstanding leadership. Together with the men and women of this brigade, we will continue to safeguard our communities and uphold our mission with integrity and professionalism," the 1ID said in a statement, quoting Rojas as saying.
Suderio reflected on his tenure with pride and expressed confidence in his successor.
"I am confident that Colonel Rojas will lead with distinction and continue our collective efforts for peace and development," Suderio said, as he cited that leading the 102Bde has been one of the most beautiful chapters in his military career.
During the ceremony, plaques of appreciation were presented to both Rojas and Suderio in recognition of their service.
Colonel Eddie Pilapil was likewise commended for his role as acting commander during the transition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
