Major General Yegor Rey Barroquillo, Jr., 1ID commander, personally honored the courage and sacrifice of the wounded soldier (name withheld) by awarding him the Wounded Personnel Medal in a solemn ceremony at Camp Evangelista Station Hospital, Cagayan de Oro City on Tuesday, August 12.
The medal was awarded for the soldier’s gallantry during a clash on August 9, in Barangay Lamin, Lumbayanague, Lanao del Sur, where Army troops fought against a group of Dawlah Islamiyah–Maute Group terrorists.
“The fierce clash resulted in three terrorists killed and three others captured, delivering a major blow to the group’s operations in the province of Lanao del Sur,” the 1ID said in a statement.
