THE Ministry of Health in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOH-Barmm) reported two laboratory-confirmed cases of Mpox (monkeypox).
Six other individuals are under close surveillance.
Dr. Kadil Sinolinding, Jr., MOH-Barmm minister, said they intensified disease surveillance, public awareness campaigns, and inter-agency coordination to prevent further transmission.
Sinolinding said the two confirmed cases are a 59-year-old from Bulalo, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte, and a 28-year-old female from Datu Odin Sinsuat, also in Maguindanao del Norte.
“Both patients are currently in isolation and are in stable condition,” Sinolinding said Thursday, May 22, 2025.
The six others under close monitoring include:
- Three individuals from Cotabato City: a 12-year-old girl, a 31-year-old, and a 24-year-old, all from Bagua Mother village.
- A 33-year-old female from Bulalo, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte.
- A 29-year-old from Poblacion, Parang, Maguindanao del Norte.
- A 54-year-old female from Tunggol, Datu Montawal, Maguindanao del Sur.
Sinolinding said they are implementing strict precautions. These include daily health checks, a 21-day quarantine for suspected cases, and a public information drive.
Health facilities across Barmm are on alert, and hospitals are prepared to handle Mpox cases, according to Sinolinding.
“To curb the spread of this infection, we urge everyone to take preventive measures. The primary mode of transmission appears to be direct skin-to-skin contact, so it is crucial to avoid close physical interaction with potentially infected individuals,” he said.
He also reminded the public to follow MOH advisories, maintain proper hygiene, wear face masks in crowds, and avoid sharing personal items. (SunStar Zamboanga)
