TWO New People’s Army (NPA) rebels, both wounded and minors, were arrested by government troops in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat, the military said Sunday, June 22, 2025.
Lieutenant Colonel Christopherson Capuyan, 37th Infantry Battalion (37IB) commander, said the two NPA rebels, alias Ka Digbay, 16, and alias Ka Mario, 17, were arrested Saturday, June 21, in Sitio Muagan, Barangay Datu Ito Andong, Kalamansig.
They belong to the NPA’s Sub-Regional Committee (SRC)-Daguma of the Far-South Mindanao Region (FSMR).
Capuyan said the apprehension of the two wounded NPA rebels was a direct result of vital information provided by concerned civilians in the area. The troops also recovered an M16 rifle with three magazines.
“The continued recruitment of children by these terrorist groups is alarming and not only destroys their future but also places them in immense danger,” Capuyan said.
“We condemn such activities and we are actively working to stop them for the sake of our youth and communities,” he added.
Capuyan said both were confirmed casualties from the fierce encounter that transpired on Thursday in Barangay Datu Ito Andong, were a soldier from the 37IB was killed and three high-ranking NPA rebels were left dead by their comrades.
He said the two wounded NPA rebels were brought to the Kalamansig Rural Health Unit (RHU) for immediate medical care.
They were later transferred to the Camp Siongco Station Hospital in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, for further medical attention due to the severity of their injuries.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Michael Santos, 603rd Infantry Brigade commander, reiterated the military's relentless pursuit for peace.
"We remain resolute in our mission to continue our decisive military operations to neutralize and apprehend the remaining members of the SRC-Daguma and other lawless elements who continue to spread fear and instability in our area of operations," Santos said.
“While we are firm in our combat operations, I want to reiterate that the military and the government are always open to individuals who wish to surrender. We offer pathways for them to lay down their arms, avail themselves of government programs, and reintegrate peacefully into society. Our doors remain open for those who choose peace over violence,” he added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
