THE municipal government of Luuk, Sulu, has successfully facilitated the amicable settlement of a 20-year-old feud between the Jumala and Idno families, the military said.
The historic reconciliation was finally sealed in a ceremony Thursday, June 19, at the function hall of a hotel in Tandu Bato village, Luuk.
Luuk Mayor Makram Arbison spearheaded the ceremony in coordination with the Municipal Peace and Order Council.
The dispute between the Jumala and Idno families stemmed from a long-standing family disagreement that escalated into a violent feud, resulting in the death of Julhasan Jumala nearly 20 years ago.
Colonel Alex Gagula, 1102nd Infantry Brigade (1102Bde) deputy commander, lauded the courage and commitment of both families in choosing the path of reconciliation.
Gagula represented Brigadier General Alaric Avelino Delos Santos, 1102Bde commander, during the reconciliation ceremony.
“By ending this rido (feud), you are setting a powerful example for other communities grappling with similar conflicts. The Philippine Army, through the 1102nd Infantry Brigade, will continue to support local peace-building efforts across Sulu” Gagula said.
The ceremony was also attended by top military and police officials as well as municipal government officials. (SunStar Zamboanga)
