3 arrested, P3.7M smuggled sugar seized in Zamboanga City

AUTHORITIES arrested three individuals and seized approximately P3.7 million worth of smuggled sugar in separate Zamboanga City operations on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

The Zamboanga City Maritime Police Station (ZC MARPSTA) reported seizing P1.7 million of the total confiscation around 10 p.m. Monday, June 16.

This occurred along Governor Alvarez Avenue in Sto. NiƱo village. ZC MARPSTA operatives intercepted a wing van truck loaded with 500 sacks of smuggled sugar during a checkpoint operation. The truck's driver was arrested.

An hour later, operatives intercepted another wing van truck on R.T. Lim Boulevard, Zamboanga City.

This truck carried 600 sacks of smuggled sugar, valued at P2 million, and two individuals were arrested.

All arrested individuals and the confiscated sugar are now in ZC MARPSTA custody for proper disposition. Joint police operatives and Western Mindanao Naval Command personnel seized the smuggled sugar. (SunStar Zamboanga)
