

THREE people were killed, while two others were wounded when the 12-wheeker trailer truck they were riding fell off a ravine in Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur, an official said Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
Senior Fire Office 3 O'Bryan Pranza, Tigbao Municipal fire marshal, said the incident happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday, August 4, in Maragang village, Tigbao.
Pranza, who led the retrieval operation, said they recovered on Monday, August 4, the remains of Nonie Mandas, 32, a resident of Dumingag town, Zamboanga del Sur.
Earlier Tuesday, August 5, the remains of Jonel Gumapac, 43, and Tata Nelmida, 49, were retrieved by responding rescuers of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Tigbao.
Gumapac was a resident of Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur, while Nelmida was from Danlugan village, Pagadian City.
Wounded were Mark James Baleaso, 29, of San Pablo, Zamboanga del Sur, and Jomar Jumuad, 28 of Sto. NiƱo,Pagadian City.
Pranza said investigation showed that Gumapac lost control of the trailer truck's steering wheel and fell off the ravine when its brakes malfunctioned.
Gumapac and his companions were transporting a road roller at the time of the accident. They came from the Labangan and were traveling to the municipality of Bayog.
The remains of the three fatalities were taken to a funeral parlor in Pagadian City while the two wounded were hospitalized for treatment. (SunStar Zamboanga)
