THE Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has turned over 50 housing units on Thursday, July 3, to marginalized sectors, including families of former combatants in Kalian village, Mangudadatu, Maguindanao del Sur.
The housing project was implemented through Kapayapaan sa Pamayanan (Kapyanan), a flagship program of the Office of the Chief Minister of Barmm.
Kapyanan Project Manager Abdullah Cusain said each unit, costing P680,000, spans 42 square meters, with three bedrooms, a kitchen, dining area, bathroom, and solar-powered light and water systems.
“The purpose of the Kapyanan program is to provide decent houses to selected communities based on certain criteria, and the majority of the residents here in Barangay Kalian are having a hard time in life,” Cusain said.
“We expect the beneficiaries to take care of the housing units,” he added.
Teng Motalib, a 56-year-old fisherman with three children and among the recipients of housing unit expressed deep gratitude to the regional government.
“We are very grateful for this house. We could never have built something like this on our own—not even in a lifetime,” Motalib said in vernacular.
Another beneficiary, Baidido Sumapal, 49, a housewife, also thanked the government for its support to the underserved communities in Maguindanao del Sur.
Cusain added that the Kapyanan governance unit will regularly monitor the condition of the housing units and the welfare of the beneficiaries.
He said the initiative aligns with the directive of Barmm Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua to complete all ongoing infrastructure projects of the region’s ministries, agencies, and offices.
