THE Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) on Monday, March 10, 2025, held a Pinning of Ranks and Donning of Unit Patch Ceremony, recognizing three newly promoted officers and officially welcoming a newly assigned officer into the battalion.

On Tuesday, March 11, the 53IB announced that those honored for their well-deserved promotions included First Lieutenants Jay May Paders and Luke Creighton Patacsil, who were promoted to the rank of Captain, and Second Lieutenant Baby Reah Monte, who was promoted to First Lieutenant.

Second Lieutenant Danico Cacanando was officially assigned to the 53IB, marking the beginning of his journey with the Matapat troopers.

“This time-honored military tradition symbolizes the officers’ hard-earned progression in rank and their deepened commitment to duty and leadership,” the 53IB said in a statement.

Lieutenant Colonel Rolando Vargas Jr., 53IB commander, assisted by the Executive Officer and Battalion Sergeant Major, led the conferment of new ranks and unit patches in a formal presentation, reinforcing the unit’s dedication to professionalism and excellence.

Vargas commended the officers for their dedication and perseverance, emphasizing that their promotions reflect individual accomplishments and increased responsibility in leading with integrity, discipline, and commitment to service.

Vargas reminded them that leadership is not about privilege or power but about setting an example and making a meaningful impact on others.

He encouraged the newly promoted and assigned officers to embody this principle, inspire those under their leadership, and foster a culture of excellence and professionalism within the battalion.

The 53IB stated that the newly promoted and assigned officers delivered heartfelt messages, expressing gratitude for the trust and confidence placed in them and reaffirming their dedication to serving with honor and integrity.

“Their words reflected personal achievement and readiness to take on greater responsibilities in leading and guiding their troops,” the 53IB said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
