THE 53rd Infantry Battalion (53IB) has recruited new members of the militia in Zamboanga del Sur to complement its efforts in community defense in the province.

A total of 96 applicants have undergone the rigorous selection process on Saturday, March 22, 2025, that seeks to identify individuals with the skills, discipline, and commitment necessary to support the 53IB's mission of maintaining peace, security, and stability in their communities.

The screening and recruitment process for aspiring militiamen was held at Camp Major David Sabido that houses the headquarters of the 53IB in Poblacion village, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.

Lieutenant Colonel Rolando Vargas Jr., 53IB commander, emphasized the necessary role of the militia program in strengthening national security at the grassroots level.

Vargas highlighted the importance of empowering local communities by enlisting dedicated individuals who would contribute to sustaining peace and order in Zamboanga del Sur.

He reiterated that the militia force or Civilian Active Auxiliary (CAA) was vital in assisting the 53IB in intelligence gathering, territorial defense, and rapid response to security threats, ultimately ensuring a safer and more resilient society.

"Through this ongoing recruitment effort, the battalion continues to uphold its mission of fostering peace, stability, and development in the province," he added.

He said they remain steadfast in their commitment to enhancing community-based defense initiatives, ensuring that only the most qualified and dedicated individuals are recruited to protect their communities. (SunStar Zamboanga)
