RESIDENTS in Maligay village, Patikul, Sulu, have received essential services as the Notre Dame of Jolo College and the military launched a humanitarian project bringing vital services and renewed hope directly to the community, the military said Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

The 1103rd Infantry Brigade (1103Bde) said activity dubbed as Project Maligay, launched on Sunday, March 29, embodies a shared mission of compassion and outreach by delivering essential services to underserved residents.

The 1103Bde, which is under the 11th Infantry Division (11ID), and the 35th Infantry Battalion joined the launching of Project Maligay, showing a powerful display of unity and service.

The initiative featured a comprehensive lineup of activities, including a Medical Civic Action Program (Medcap) offering free consultations and medicines, a feeding program, free haircuts, ear piercing, gift-giving, film viewing, and other community-centered services.

The launching of Project Maligay was graced by Reverend Father Ross Kapunan, Notre Dame of Jolo College president, and Major General Leonardo Peña, commander of the 11ID.

The 1103Bde said the presence of Kapunan and Peña highlighted the importance of collaboration in uplifting communities and sustaining peace initiatives in Sulu.

“True security is achieved when communities feel cared for, supported, and empowered through collective action,” Peña said in a statement.

“Project Maligay is our commitment to turning compassion into action and ensuring that no community is left behind,” Kapunan said.

Meanwhile, the municipal government of Patikul and Maligay village council expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support, which brings not only services but also hope to their constituents.

The 1103Bde said Project Maligay stands as a shining example of how partnerships among the military, academe, and local communities can create lasting impact transforming lives, strengthening trust, and fostering a culture of care and solidarity. (SunStar Zamboanga)
