

KEY leaders and stakeholders in Al-Barka, Basilan have reaffirmed their commitment to peace and stability as they signed a peace covenant ensuring peaceful and orderly midterm polls come May 12, the military said Saturday, March 15, 2025.
The Army’s 101st Infantry Brigade (101Bde) said the signing of the peace covenant was held on Friday, March 14, at the Al-Barka municipal hall in Magcawa village in that town.
Brigadier General Alvin Luzon, 101Bde, joined Al-Barka Mayor Jaydeefar Lajid, the police, traditional and religious leaders, and representatives from various sectors in pledging to reject violence, promote dialogue, and work together for the continued progress of Al-Barka.
During the event, Luzon highlighted the transformation of Al-Barka from a conflict-prone area into a community embracing peace and development.
“Upholding peace is a shared responsibility. It is not only the duty of the government or the security sector but of the entire community,” Luzon said in a statement.
The candidates, including Lajid, have emphasized in their messages their shared responsibility in maintaining peace and ensuring a fair and democratic electoral process.
The 101Bde said the messages of support from the police and religious leaders reinforced the significance of continued collaboration in ensuring that peace remains a lasting reality. (SunStar Zamboanga)
