PHILIPPINE Coast Guard personnel aboard BRP-Capones (MRRV-4404) rescued six crew of a wooden-hulled vessel in distress off Basilan amid the inclement weather conditions Saturday, June 7, 2025.
The Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) said the six were rescued around 10:22 a.m. near Malamawi Island, Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province.
“The distressed vessel, which approached BRP-Capones while it was at anchor, was taking in water due to a hull breach,” the CGDSWM said in a statement.
“Coast Guard personnel deployed a submersible pump to control the flooding and transferred the vessel’s grocery cargo aboard the MRRV,” the CGDSWM added.
The six crew of the ill-fated wooden-hulled vessel were brought to Zamboanga City in good condition.
The CGDSWM said the damaged vessel, partially submerged, was abandoned for safety.
