
AUTHORITIES arrested in an intelligence-driven law enforcement operation in Maguindanao del Sur an alleged original member of the Dawlah Islamiya in Soccsksargen, the police said Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
Police Brigadier General Jaysen De Guzman, newly installed Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) director, said the suspect, alias Abu Usama, was arrested on Tuesday, June 24, in Kaya-Kaya village, Datu Abdullah Sangki, Maguindanao del Sur.
De Guzman said Abu Usama, who also uses the aliases of Junard Darino, Jayrol Darino, and Usman Abdullah, has been listed as priority target since his facing multiple serious criminal offenses.
De Guzman said Abu Usama has standing warrants of arrest for three counts of murder with no bail recommended; two counts for illegal possession of explosives with no bail recommended; violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act with P100,000 recommended bail; and carnapping with violence or intimidation with no bail recommended.
Abu Usama was also formerly one of the original members of the Dawlah Islamiyah (DI)-Soccsksargen Khatiba Group, an ISIS-inspired terrorist faction with operations in South Cotabato, Sarangani, and Sultan Kudarat.
De Guzman said that after the death of their leader, Abu Usama aligned himself with the DI-Hassan Group, continuing subversive and violent activities.
Abu Usama is also believed to be actively involved with the Abdul Halim Sansawi Carnapping Group, a criminal syndicate known to fund terror operations through proceeds from carnapping and robbery in Soccsksargen and Maguindanao del Sur.
The suspect was arrested by joint team of police units in Maguindanao and Soccsksargen, intelligence units, as well as PNP-Special Action Force operatives.
The suspect is currently under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Maguindanao provincial filed unit. (SunStar Zamboanga)
