THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, announced the completion of the P19.6 million flood control structure, enhancing the protection of a flood-prone area in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.
The flood control structure was built in Alang-Alang village, Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur, according to the DPWH-Zamboanga Peninsula.
The DPWH-Zamboanga Peninsula said the newly-completed project safeguards rice fields from scouring during heavy rains and flooding, ensuring agricultural productivity and community resilience.
“Beyond protecting lives and property, it also promotes environmental sustainability and economic stability,” the DPWH-Zamboanga Peninsula said in a statement.
The P19.6 million fund allocation for the implementation of the project came from the General Appropriations Act of 2024.
The project was implemented by the Zamboanga del Sur First District Engineering Office. (SunStar Zamboanga)
