THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two infrastructure projects—a flood control system and a multi-purpose building—worth a total of P60 million in the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur and Basilan.
The DPWH-Zamboanga Peninsula announced that a P50 million flood control project was completed along the Sibuguey River in Damit village, Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur.
The 282.4-meter flood control structure was funded under the General Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2024.
The newly completed flood control structure is expected to provide long-term protection against water-related disasters, ensuring a more resilient and secure environment for local residents.
“This initiative addresses the persistent threat of flooding in the area, significantly reducing risks to communities, farmlands, and key infrastructure,” the DPWH-Zamboanga Peninsula said in a statement.
“The project aims to enhance livelihoods and safety by minimizing displacement and economic losses caused by recurring floods.”
The flood control project was constructed by the DPWH Zamboanga del Sur 2nd District Engineering Office.
Meanwhile, the DPWH-Zamboanga Peninsula announced that a P10 million multi-purpose building was built in Townsite village, Maluso, Basilan.
The DPWH stated that the construction of the multi-purpose building, which spans a total floor area of 328 square meters, was funded under the Fiscal Year 2024 budget.
The two-story facility will serve as an extension office of the municipal hall, offering a more accessible and convenient venue for residents to avail themselves of various government services.
“This project underscores the agency’s dedication to advancing community infrastructure and fostering the well-being of the people by providing quality public facilities,” the DPWH-Zamboanga Peninsula said.
The multi-purpose building stands as a testament to the commitment of the Isabela City District Engineering Office to enhancing public service delivery. (SunStar Zamboanga)
