THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has simultaneously distributed 2,000 sacks of rice to Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries in the provinces of Tawi-Tawi and Basilan, the DSWD regional office said Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
Of the 2,000 sacks, 1,000 were distributed in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi while the remaining 1,000 in Lamitan City, Basilan province.
The distribution of rice in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi was led by DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian together with Governor Yshmael Sali of the province.
Personnel of the DSWD-Zamboanga Peninsula together with the provincial government and city government as well as from the Ministry of Social Welfare and Development in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MSSD-BARMM) distributed the rice to the 4Ps recipients in Lamitan City, Basilan province.
The rice distribution serves as one of the government’s solution to the high price of rice in the market and the fight against hunger.
The rice that were distributed to the 4Ps beneficiaries were part of the more than 42,000 sacks of rice seized by the Bureau of Customs in a warehouse in this city in May, this year.
Some of the sacks of rice were previously distributed in different areas of the country.
