DSWD releases P1.7-M financial aid to 430 PWDs in Zamboanga Peninsula

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-Cidds) cash-for-work program, has released some P1.7 million financial aid to 430 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Zamboanga Peninsula.

The DSWD said Wednesday, April 30, 2025, that financial assistance was released to the PWD beneficiaries in series of payouts held last week.

The DSWD said the payouts were conducted in the city of Dapitan, municipalities of Leon B. Postigo, and Godod in Zamboanga del Norte; Ipil, and Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay; and Aurora and Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur.

The following city and municipalities having PWD beneficiaries are Dapitan City, 166; Leon Postigo, 55; Godod, 20; Ipil, 29; Tungawan, 69; Aurora, 43; and Margosatubig, 48 beneficiaries.

A total of P1,780,200 were disbursed as salaries of the beneficiaries, according to the DSWD.

The payouts were witnessed by officials and representatives of the Commission on Elections.

The cash-for-work program for PWD of Kalahi-Cidss is a targeted intervention that provides short-term financial assistance in exchange for community work or services.

The program aims to empower PWDs by highlighting their capabilities to contribute to their communities, raising awareness about PWDs' potential, challenging stereotypes, and reducing societal stigma.

The beneficiaries were deployed to different government agencies in the mentioned city and municipalities and rendered a maximum of eight hours a day for 10 days. (SunStar Zamboanga)
