THE Coast Guard Station (CGS)-Eastern Sulu, through Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS)-Banguingui, successfully rescued nine crews of fishing boat in distress off Sulu on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
The Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) said in a statement Friday, August 7, that the fishing boat, marked Swan 3, was rescued in the waters off Duway Bullod, Banguingui, Sulu.
The CGDSWM said F/B Swan 3 drifted at sea after it experienced major engine trouble while en route to Sangali village, Zamboanga City coming from Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.
“The CGSS-Banguingui swiftly towed the distressed vessel to Port Tiger Base, Barangay Dungon, Banguingui, Sulu, ensuring the safe rescue of all nine crew members,” the CGDSWM said in a statement.
“All boat crew members were accounted for and found to be in good physical condition,” the CGS-Eastern Sulu said in a separate statement.
The CGS-Eastern Sulu commended the municipal government of Banguingui for the invaluable support and swift inter-agency collaboration that ensured the success of the operation and the safety of all personnel involved.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard said they remain steadfast in safeguarding lives at sea through prompt maritime response and swift coordination under its Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) program. (SunStar Zamboanga)
