
THE Isabela City government held an orientation on Republic Act 9344, the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 to strengthen community-based child protection and restorative justice.
The Isabela City Information Office said the orientation occurred on Wednesday, May 21, at the City Council Session Hall spearheaded by City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) chief Nor Aina Asmara.
The orientation emphasized creating Juvenile Justice and Welfare Councils at the village level and developing Barangay Diversion Plans.
"The orientation is to equip local leaders with the knowledge and tools necessary to manage cases involving children in conflict with the law through restorative and community-based approaches," the information office said.
During the orientation, Social Welfare Office 3 Jacqueline Julpi of the Regional Juvenile Justice and Welfare Office discussed the legal framework, duties of barangay officials, and the proper implementation of diversion and intervention programs.
Village chiefs from Sunrise, Balatanay, Doña Ramona, Marang-Marang, Maligue, Kapayawan, Cabunbata, Kumalarang, and Diki attended. The other 36 villages sent representatives.
Personnel from the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of the Isabela City Police Station also attended. (SunStar Zamboanga)
