MAYOR John Dalipe will lead the program commemorating the 126th death anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal on Friday, December 30, the City Hall said in a statement Wednesday, December 28.
It said the commemorative program will start at 7 a.m. at the Rizal Monument in front of the century-old City Hall of Zamboanga.
Themed "Rizalism: The Emergence of Peace Through the Power of the Pen," the Rizal Day program commemorates the life and works of Jose Rizal.
The activity is organized by the City Government in collaboration with the Knights of Rizal-Western Mindanao led by area commander Domingo Falcasantos.
December 30 was declared a national holiday.
The program will commence with the flag raising ceremony to be followed by the floral offering at the foot of the Rizal Monument.
Officials and representatives from national and local government offices, as well as military officials and school heads are expected to participate in the program.
Rizal was executed on December 30, 1896 at Bagumbayan, now Luneta Park in Manila. (SunStar Zamboanga)
