2-day ‘Diskwento Caravan’ reels off

THE two-day “Balik Eskwela Diskwento” Caravan of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) kicked off on Thursday, May 31, in Zamboanga City.

The first day of the Diskwento Caravan was held in the open field in front of the Ayala village Hall, west of this city.

The second day of the caravan will be held on Friday, June 1, at the covered court of Sangali villages, east of this city.

DTI Provincial Director Ceferino Rubio said the Balik Eskwela Diskwento Caravan is aimed at bringing basic and prime commodities to include school supplies, uniforms, bags and shoes at discounted prices easy and more accessible to low income earners in time for the opening of classes

Rubio said that at least 10 percent discount is being given by participating stores and distributors on basic and prime commodities as well as school supplies during caravan.

The diskwento caravan is being held at the historical Plaza Pershing located downtown but was later shifted to the villages.

“By veering away from city centers and conducting it in far-flung barangays, it is hoped that the services the caravan bring will reach our intended beneficiaries, the low income earners,” Rubio said. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
