ALERTED policemen have arrested two persons for alleged carnapping and recovered the vehicle owned by a businessman in Zamboanga City, the police reported Tuesday, February 28, 2023.

Police Colonel Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City Police Office director, identified the arrested suspects as Fredzon Tan, 23, and Ana Lea Sanson, 31.

Lorenzo said recovered from the two were a pick-up truck owned by Joshua Baroro, 50, a businessman and a resident of Purok Acasia in Kulambugan village, R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Lorenzo said investigation showed the suspects and Baroro met Monday at the businessman’s resto bar in R.T. Lim town where Sanson expressed interest in buying the house and lot of the businessman provided they will also swap vehicles.

The vehicles involved in the transaction were the pick-up truck of Baroro and a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) of the suspects.

Lorenzo said the suspects used the vehicle of the businessman to travel to Zamboanga City departing R.T. Lim town around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 28 and promised to return at 10 a.m. on the same day.

Out of curiosity, Baroro opened the SUV left by the suspects searching for the vehicles’ documents.

Baroro upon scrutinizing the SUV’s documents of the suspects, learned that Sanson was already intercepted by the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) on February 21 for alleged spurious documents of vehicle.

Baroro immediately reported to the HPG in Zamboanga Sibugay, who in turn coordinated with the ZCPO.

Lorenzo said the suspects were arrested and Baroro’s vehicle was recovered around 5:43 a.m. Tuesday in a checkpoint set up by the personnel of the ZCPO’s Station 3 in Sangali village.

The said the suspects and the vehicle were turned over to the custody of the HPG-Zamboanga Sibugay. (SunStar Zamboanga)
