2 youth rehab center's escapees nabbed

TWO escapees of the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) were arrested in possession of a stolen motorbike while roaming in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Monday, June 15.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested escapees as Ronnel Comidoy Landero, 19, of Siloh village, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Noel Ruben Castañares, 15, of Poblacion village, Mutia, Zamboanga del Norte.

Galvez said Landero and Castañares were arrested around 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Tilasan village, R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Galvez said the two were nabbed by responding policemen when concerned residents reported to the police that there were suspicious persons roaming around Tilasan village.

She said the suspects managed only to present the documents of the motorcycle they were riding but failed to show travel authority and papers related to community quarantine.

But she said the policemen, upon verification and coordination, have discovered that Landero is charged with two-count rape in the town of Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay, while Castañares has a pending carnapping case in Dipolog City, the capital of Zamboanga del Norte.

She said it was also discovered that the motorcycle the two suspects were using was stolen in the village of Labrador, Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte.

She said it was further found out that the two suspects have escaped from the RRCY on Thursday, June 11.

The suspects were placed under the custody of the police in R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay for documentation prior turn over to the RRCY in Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte. (SunStar Zamboanga)
