4 nabbed in anti-smuggling operation

FOUR people, including a village official, were arrested in possession of smuggled cigarettes in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Monday, July 27, 2020.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula spokesperson, identified the suspects as follows: Morsalin Gumander Solaiman, 25, treasurer Of Lower Sang-an village in Labangan, Zamboanga Del Sur; Saida Gumander Solaiman, 50; Sarah Solaiman Mamento, 22; and Engcong Datu-Oto Aliembran, 20.

Duco said they were arrested in an anti-smuggling operation around 10 a.m. Sunday in Mahayag village, Dimataling, Zamboanga Del Sur.

He added the suspects were arrested when the arresting team intercepted a Sports Utility Vehicle loaded with smuggled cigarettes in Mahayag village, Dimataling.

Seized from the suspects were some P15,000 worth of assorted smuggled cigarettes.

Duco said the suspects were temporarily detained at Dimataling Municipal Police Station for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
